An Ambitious Project: A Ship for the Lithuanian Naval Forces

The ambition to design and develop a next-generation Naval Forces ship in Lithuania is becoming a reality, with significant results already visible. Collaborating with strategic partners in Denmark, engineers from Western Baltic Engineering, part of the AB Vakarų Laivų Gamykla group, have developed a modern conceptual design for a patrol ship. This conceptual vessel stands out for its technological capabilities and is specifically tailored for patrol missions and critical infrastructure protection operations in the Baltic Sea. Additionally, the ship can partially carry out escort missions and operations to counter underwater threats. Thanks to its optimal size, maneuverability, and integrated technologies—such as advanced surveillance systems, autonomous functions, and multifunctional platform capabilities—this ship meets the modern defense standards and specifications of NATO member countries. It is worth noting that such a project is realistically implementable in Lithuania, leveraging cross-sectoral collaboration. The production base for the project could be established in Klaipėda, utilizing local capacities, extensive maritime industry expertise, and advanced technologies. This would not only strengthen national defense but also provide a significant boost to Lithuania's industry by creating new jobs, promoting innovation, and enhancing the country's competitiveness on the international stage. We extend our gratitude to the Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association (LGSPA) member AB Vakarų Laivų Gamykla for their outstanding professionalism, consistent work, and determination in pursuing ambitious goals. The successfully chosen collaboration model demonstrates that Lithuanian companies can become equal partners in the global defense ecosystem, creating future solutions to ensure security not only for the country but also for the region.
