LDSIA Supports the President’s Initiatives to Strengthen the Defence Industry

The Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association (LDISA) Expresses Support for President Gitanas Nausėda’s Proposals to Strengthen Domestic Defence Industry and Boost Investment

The Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association supports the proposals put forward by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, aimed at strengthening the domestic defence industry, expanding internal capabilities, and encouraging investment.

“In the near future, our economy will be driven by investments in the local defence industry. It is particularly important to harness the existing high-tech potential in this sector. We must not only increase ammunition production, but also develop advanced sensors, laser systems, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukraine has already proven that by shifting to local drone production, significant results can be achieved even with limited resources.”

“As a means of supporting economic growth, I propose that the resources collected in the Defence Fund be more closely tied to promoting the local defence industry,” the President stated in his annual address.

LDSIA’s position is clear – a long-term strategic direction is essential.

“We need to define a concrete 5–10 year plan and set clear targets: what share of the overall defence budget Lithuania will allocate to strengthening the local industry. Such a commitment would send a strong signal to both public institutions and the private sector,” said LDSIA Director Vaidas Sabaliauskas.

The association also emphasizes the importance of ensuring transparent and consistent dialogue between the state and businesses, with the goal of establishing clear cooperation rules, reducing administrative burdens, and fostering long-term trust – a point also highlighted by the President in his address.
